ABCv . 38 E19 ST MANHATTAN

I HAVE SPOKEN ABOUT VEGOPPRESSION BEFORE. "WHAT DO YOU HAVE FOR A VEGETARIAN"...'I WILL SURPRISE YOU"...IF I SAID I LIKED MEAT WOULD YOU SURPRISE ME?

Well the good news is about more veggie options. I am not a vegetarian but Jeanne is. And she should have a good TG dinner. ABCv  (V FOR VEGAN)to the rescue .[.Don't feel bad for me because Frank ,Kristen, and Lizzie
dropped off a full turkey dinner.]

And some of my short term diet needs and the high end quality at ABC hardly made this a sacrifice...au cont rare it was a treat. like the cherry apple pie

pie
This is Jean Georges place and having taken a cooking
lesson with this genius ,I knew it would be swell.

Roasted cabbage

kombucha sangria and foccacia

carrot and pea puree

I knew this would be special.  I had a Tumeric Elixir and liked it and lemon verbena tea which my horticulturist told me was an  herb. There was a Guiness- sized mushroom dish and mashed potatoes too. Plenty.
oh... and the bill!!!

TICONDEROGA CLUB GROG STREET MARKET...ATLANTA

turnips

"Where are you from? " the waiter asked as the locals leaned in.  "BKLN... I was in Marietta in 1968...that make me a local?" They nodded yes.
1968 . last visit to Atlanta

KROG SREET MARKET WAS A "WORTHIT "WALK FROM OUR HOTEL.  After a more than worthit gathering at The Carter Center with The Doris Duke Foundation a quiet dinner was in order.
The market was only partially opened on a Monday but Ticonderoga Club was hidden and open.
Rustic and friendly with a neighborhood feel. The tempura soft shell crab in shrimp sauce over peanuts, snow pea tips, and noodles soaked with papaya and mango was crisp . A side of turnips was good enough to take home if I were closer to home.  My last visit to Atlanta was in 1968 (a story for a different blog). My next visit won't wait that long...and when I go ...I will go back to my club.

TERRE 341 5TH AVE PARK SLOPE (3RD ST)

OUT of L'Abero Dei Gelato a slow food cafe featuring panini has come Terre...a full menu Italian restaurant filled with charm and flavor. With romantic candle lit ambiance and a menu of unusual organic wines and flavors of Umbria and Rome unfold. The gnocchi was basil rich and the texture was airy. Full disclosure this is close to home and convenience matters. But it also close to Italia and close to perfection.

LA VARA COMIDA CASERA...268 CLINTON ST BK

The snow flakes fluttered as an overlay on the window sparkles after a brief wait for the doors to open on this brownstone street. Kind informed service by a team lead by Meagan began immediately with the bartender's tending to the table wobble without any signal from us. Ambiance? La Vara!
"Tapas" tells only part of the story.  A white wine ..Martinsancho and red sangria perfecta...fried olive amuse..citrus olives..spicy garbanzo fritos cut the hunger and chill. THEN THE CRESCENDO STARTS....Croqueta jambon ,Gurullos pasta...Spanish shrimp... and a lush grain salad...onion and blue cheese flat bread...cymbals
and snare drums!  I had previously tasted olive oil cake but this was our first olive ice cream sprinkled with course salt, but combined with a long walk and a catch up talk with Jeanne and a used book store stop...it came as close as a dining experience could get to neutralizing the  week's residue.
